An average earner in Austria currently receives about 2365 euros net if he earns 3604 euros gross. In the EU, work is only taxed more heavily in Belgium and Germany than in Germany. That is the conclusion of Agenda Austria, which analyzed OECD data. If we were taxed like the Dutch, for example, we would have 673 euros more per month.
Because even after the tax reform, which will leave more money on the stock market from the summer, domestic workers will remain at a disadvantage in an EU comparison. Austrian economist Dénes Kucsera claims: “Middle incomes should first and foremost benefit from tax relief. In the current system, however, this is where the tax burden increases the most.”
