The clink of ice cubes, the bubbling of carbon dioxide, a slice of lemon – happiness, and not only on a scorching hot summer day, is determined, among other things, by a glass of Coca-Cola. But does it always have to be the brand dominator from the US? During a blind tasting (see video above), Krone+ discovered that there are even more top products on Austrian shelves that can keep up with the taste.
Attempts to market a similar drink are almost as old as Coca-Cola itself. To at least get a little piece of the lemonade business. The pie is huge: Coca-Cola alone will generate $45.7 billion in sales by 2023.
The market leader is also a major player in Austria. The drink has been available in this country since 1929; most recently 519 million liters were produced in Austria, most of it in Edelstal in Burgenland. With 800 employees, Coca-Cola is seen as an important economic engine.
