After an attack on the power supply at car manufacturer Tesla in Grünheide near Berlin, the factory is back online (see video above). The repair work was completed considerably earlier than initially expected, the responsible grid operator Edis announced on Monday evening.
Tesla had previously expected production to be halted until the end of this week due to the power outage. As reported, previously unknown perpetrators set fire to a freely accessible electricity pole in a field about a week ago. This is responsible for supplying the Tesla factory. After the arson, for which the left-wing extremist ‘Vulkan group’ claimed responsibility, production came to a standstill. In addition, the power went out in the logistics center.
According to energy supplier Edis, the decisive switchover in the network control center could take place on Monday at 8:45 p.m. “Power has since been restored.” The decisive factor was the result of a high-voltage measurement.
The damage amounts to hundreds of millions of euros
Tesla factory manager André Thierig estimated the damage last Tuesday at hundreds of millions of euros. At that point, he didn’t expect failure until around Sunday. The attack on the high-voltage pylon led to a broad debate in Germany about better protection of energy networks.
The background to the protest is that the electric car manufacturer wants to build a freight station, warehouses and a company kindergarten next to the 300-hectare factory site. To achieve this, more than 100 hectares of forest will be cut down.
