Is this the end of the eternal cat and mouse game surrounding British-American influencer Andrew Tate (37)? Most recently, he went into hiding in Romania amid allegations of human trafficking and exploitation of women, was imprisoned there, but was released. Now he and his brother Tristan (35) have been arrested again – extradition to Britain is now on the table.
The reason for the new arrest was a European arrest warrant that Great Britain had obtained. The Romanian news agency Mediafax reported this on Tuesday, citing the police. The brothers are accused in Romania of human trafficking and exploitation of young women.
Brothers were recently freed
The two men were initially arrested 24 hours late on Monday evening in the village of Voluntari near Bucharest. They had to appear before the public prosecutor in Bucharest on Tuesday. Although the Public Prosecution Service’s indictment has been ready since June 2023, no hearing has yet taken place.
On December 30, 2022, the Tate brothers and two accomplices were arrested near Bucharest. Three months later this measure was converted into house arrest. The suspects have been at large since August 2023 – with the restriction that they were not allowed to leave Romania.
Misogyny, lover boy method
The four people are accused of forcing young women to participate in commercially distributed sex videos in Romania. For this they allegedly used the so-called loverboy method: they used manipulation techniques to make the girls dependent on themselves. Andrew Tate denies all allegations.
Andrew Tate rose to fame in 2016 when he was kicked out of Britain’s ‘Big Brother’ show after a video of him hitting a woman with a belt became public. As an influencer, he often presented himself with misogynistic statements. In Britain and beyond, he is regarded as the epitome of so-called toxic masculinity.
