Gasoline, in record, eat 75% of the bonus

Date:

It rises by more than 1.4% in just one week, to almost two euros per litre, while diesel advances to 1.85 euros

The average price of petrol in Spain has risen further this week, reaching a new all-time high, rising to 1,968 euros per litre, after rising 1.44% from seven days ago, according to data from the European Union Oil Bulletin. collected by Europa Press.

That average amount includes taxes, but does not reflect the discount in effect since April 1 of at least 20 cents per liter, as there are higher discounts depending on the oil company.

Taking into account this subsidy, the price of a liter of petrol, after snagging its sixth consecutive rise since Easter, would be just five cents cheaper than it was in the last week of March, before the discount was applied, thus reducing the price increase that has since registered by this fuel has already absorbed 75% of the aid.

In the case of diesel, the average price per liter, in contrast to petrol, has become cheaper again this week for the third week in a row, falling 0.8% to 1,852 euros.

In this way, despite this high price level for diesel, this fuel has shown a more favorable evolution than that of petrol since the beginning of March. Applying the discount of 20 cents per liter, the amount would therefore be 18.5 cents lower than at the end of March.

Compared to a year ago, the average price of a liter of petrol has increased by 48.4%, while for diesel it is 56.5% more expensive, without taking into account the discount currently in force.

These prices are recorded in an environment of constant increases in crude oil in the current context, marked by the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. The barrel of Brent, a reference in Europe, was traded above USD 113 on Thursday, while the American Texas was exchanged for just over USD 112.5.

The price of fuel depends on several factors, such as the specific price (independent of oil), the evolution of crude oil, taxes, the cost of raw materials and logistics and gross margins. In this way, the evolution of the price of crude oil is not passed on directly, but with a delay, in the petrol prices.

The new fuel increase comes in the middle of the government’s investigation to expand the package of anti-crisis measures launched on April 1, which, among many other measures, includes the bonus of €0.20 per liter filled by the drivers.

The president of the government, Pedro Sánchez, has announced to his parliamentary group that the executive will extend the measures for another three months, starting on June 30, with a decree that, according to Moncloa, is the “substantial” of the current will maintain . Everything seems to indicate that the bonus does not change, regardless of the consumer’s income level in the summer.

In this sense, the government spokesman and Minister of Territorial Policy, Isabel Rodríguez, clarified this Thursday that they will “reframe” the support of the anti-crisis decree to deal with the consequences of the war resulting from the invasion of Ukraine, which will be extended for three months. He explained that this way they will always give the correct answers.

This was conveyed by the spokeswoman in statements to the media from Jerez after the Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzón, alluded to the fact that measures such as the fuel bonus are reaching those who “really” need it and not the entire population.

On this, the government spokesperson has indicated that “now when that decree comes into force, the government will reformulate this aid to give the right answers at the right time.”
