When you say KTM, you think of motorcycles like those you see in MotoGP, the premier class in the Road World Championship, or on the motocross tracks around the world. But now the manufacturer from Mattighofen is becoming increasingly involved in the megatrend surrounding urban mobility – and is producing electric scooters.
Prominent events such as the MotoGP or the race called Dakar Rally are also reflected in the sales figures of the motorcycle manufacturer from Mattighofen: Pierer Mobility AG, which includes KTM as well as Husqvarna, GasGas and MV Agusta, was able to increase its turnover again last year with an increase of 381,555 bicycles.
New order behind the scenes
A lot also happened behind the scenes at the group from Mattighofen: clear lines were drawn and areas redefined – on the one hand there is now a division for motorcycles, on the other hand there is a division for e-mobility . The latter includes both e-bikes and e-motorcycles in standard and mini versions.
Mobility in urban areas
Almost incidentally, KTM has entered new territory, namely that of the so-called stand-up scooters. “We are clearly moving in the mobility of the urban area,” says board member Viktor Sigl.
The scooters, which are marketed under the Husqvarna brand with the name ‘Skutta’, have been on sale since December and are real lightweights. A scooter with which the residents of Innviertel now travel to the cities weighs 17 kilos.
