A week after the strike by Austrian Airlines’ flight crew, passengers once again have to take flight cancellations into account. The staff is planning a company meeting on Thursday, April 4, starting at 9 a.m.
The duration and specific impact on business operations are still unclear. This concerns higher salaries for the flying staff. The situation between AUA management and shipboard personnel in collective bargaining negotiations appears to be at an impasse, although both sides recently emphasized their willingness to talk. The union demands that employee wages be brought into line with those of Lufthansa staff.
The company has not shown any approach so far. AUA boss Annette Mann even said that the Lufthansa Group could serve Vienna with cheaper airlines in the future if staff did not demand less. The Vida union seemed ‘irritated’ and spoke of ‘threats from the German side’.
Further strikes possible
The next steps will be discussed on Thursday. Vida boss Roman Hebenstreit did not rule out further strikes on Friday. ‘All steps’ are ‘possible’.
The KV dispute has been going on for several weeks and 17 rounds of negotiations have yielded no results. Hundreds of flights have been canceled since negotiations began. The ship’s crew went on strike last Thursday. About 400 flights were canceled and 50,000 passengers did not reach their destinations as planned.
