Stationary and online – Why furniture giant XXXLutz consciously pursues a two-pronged approach

Date:

With the opening of Mömax, XXXLutz Group will open its new location in Linz on Wednesday, May 15. The investment, which costs a total of 60 million euros, is a commitment by the Wels-based company to the stationary retail sector. At the same time, the “furniture store on the couch” is also promoted.

Furniture retail giant XXXLutz built the new location in Linz within 20 months. Right next to the railway bridge and the home base of the Blau-Weiß Linz football club, the new furniture store Mömax will open on Wednesday, with XXXLutz following next week. Costs for the complex, which also includes a warehouse, underground parking garage and offices: 60 million euros.

Investments in stores are the order of the day for the Wels-based company, one of the three largest furniture retailers in the world. “We also believe in online retail,” says spokesperson Thomas Saliger, “but furniture is objects that you want to feel, see and, above all, try out. “You need a certain amount of exhibition space.”

About a decade ago, the company began selling furniture professionally online, Saliger says: “Many office supply retailers simply did not want to accept online commerce and ignored it. It was different with us. We are fully committed to this and have invested heavily.”

The spokesperson for XXXLutz emphasizes: “What we are building is not a store, but a furniture store at the bank. The purchase preparation takes place online. Many people even come to our house with the prints.”
