Canadian video portal Rumble is once again suing Google over its advertising practices. The tech giant monopolizes the advertising market “by purchasing upstream and downstream companies, simultaneously representing advertisers and advertising clients, and operating the marketplace that connects these parties,” says the lawsuit filed in a California court on Monday. tightened. Rumble is seeking $1 billion in damages.
Google did not immediately respond to a Reuters query. Google’s advertising business accounts for about three-quarters of the company’s revenue.
Rumble had already sued Google in 2021 for favoring the video sharing platform YouTube, which is owned by Google parent company Alphabet, in search results. The discovery process is currently underway after a judge denied Google’s request to dismiss the lawsuit. The U.S. Department of Justice, along with eight states, is also taking legal action against the search engine operator’s advertising practices.
Last year it filed an antitrust lawsuit alleging abuse of its dominant position in the digital advertising sector and market obstruction. The Department of Justice wants to force Google to sell its Ad Manager Suite.
