Tipping in restaurants, in the bakery, in taxis, at delivery services: As more and more people pay by card, behavior is changing when it comes to adding generous amounts to the bill. Not always for the better. In some cases, customers find themselves in a forced situation and restaurateurs fear for their turnover. Sometimes they even work with emphasis and with a surcharge of up to 25 percent.
How much and where do you tip? The crucial question comes at the latest during the payment process. Some round the amount up, others give between five and twenty percent. Too much, too little? Finding the right balance isn’t that easy if you don’t want to come across as a cheapskate or braggart. But more and more innkeepers are making the decision for the guest, sometimes with brutal guidelines, as today’s examples show.
