The two 34-year-olds spent many years together with prisoners in prisons and in court cases. Two years ago they took a remarkable step and started studying law.
The Austrian Association of Judges is calling for more than 100 additional posts, as the number of cases in the courts has been rising sharply for some time. There are already promising candidates for two of them: Thomas H. and Michael P., both 34 years old, are following a particularly remarkable path in the judiciary. H. was a prison guard at Josefstadt prison for eleven years, his colleague worked directly with prisoners in Simmering for five years and in Gerasdorf for three years.
“Ensure safety and order”
Two years ago, the two decided to study law independently and later work as a judge or public prosecutor, for example. “With your studies there are many career opportunities within the judiciary,” Thomas H. explains the step. The goal of the two is “to ensure security and order.”
The prison guards currently work as ‘recruitment officers’, advertising career opportunities in the penal and prison system. The multimedia studies in Linz are running next to me.
