Austria is not only a powerhouse in the timber sector with its sawmills and chipboard companies, but also in trade. The Fischeis Group from Stockerau in Lower Austria is active throughout Europe. An ex-politician is expected to continue driving growth as the new head of Austria.
“We consider ourselves the leading timber trader in Europe and are certainly the only one active nationwide,” confirms Werner Stix, Managing Director of the Frischeis Group (JAF). With 71 branches in 17 countries and almost 3,000 employees, JAF, founded in 1948 and named after its founders Johann and Antonia Frijkeis, is as big as it is little known because it only supplies to commercial customers such as carpenters.
