Apple is falling further behind in the important Chinese smartphone market. The American iPhone provider’s sales fell by almost seven percent in the second quarter to 9.7 million units, according to research published Thursday by industry service Canalys.
With a market share of just 14 percent, the American company has fallen from third to sixth place among the major suppliers. Huawei, on the other hand, increased smartphone sales by 41 percent to 10.6 million units thanks to the success of its “Pura 70” series, the company said. This brought its market share to 15 percent.
Experts at research house TechInsights expect Huawei to sell more than 50 million mobile phones this year, making the group a leader in the sector.
Vivo, Oppo and Honor at the front
So far, Vivo, Oppo and Honor have topped Huawei in the list of most successful smartphone brands. “The local manufacturers are proving their market leadership, taking the top five spots in the mainland Chinese market for the first time,” Canalys analyst Lucas Zhong summarized. The Chinese mobile phone market grew by 10 percent overall in the quarter.
