Fast food chain McDonald’s pays 1.25 billion euros in France to prevent investigations into tax fraud. The president of the Court of Justice in Paris on Thursday confirmed the corresponding agreement between the financial prosecutor and McDonald’s in France, the public prosecutor in Paris announced.

The investigations that have been conducted since 2016 on suspicion of tax fraud would therefore be terminated. French justice suspects McDonald’s has artificially reduced its profits in France by paying license fees to its European parent company in Luxembourg.

Investigations into organized tax fraud
In early 2016, the Public Prosecution Service launched a preliminary investigation after union representatives filed a lawsuit against McDonald’s France for organized tax fraud. According to the information at the time, it involved an amount of about 75 million euros on an annual basis.
