From Freistadt, Landkost conquers the animal world with dog snacks and chews. Bosses Sigrid Populorum and Georg Heimbucher, who manage the small company of the Greisinger Group, reveal what is important in the products and where they want to grow.
The development of the past few years has been very steep. “This is how it should continue,” says Sigrid Populorum. Since February, she has been running Landkost GmbH in Freistadt together with Georg Heimbucher, which has made a name for itself as a manufacturer of dog snacks and chews and acts as a producer for the own brands of various retailers.
The path seems to work. The company, part of the Greisinger Group, managed to double its turnover between 2020 and 2023. Now they are increasingly looking for buyers abroad: Germany is the most important market, “but we are not limiting ourselves to Europe,” Populorum emphasizes. Mühlviertel products are already sold in Australia.
For the first time in years at the Interzoo trade fair
The appearance at the Interzoo trade fair in Nuremberg, where we were present for the first time in many years, was worth it: “We won customers that we already supply – it happened extremely quickly.”
How does countryfood score? “We try to reduce the odor level of all products as much as possible,” says Heimbucher. The development also depends on feedback from cats. What does that look like? “If cats like our snacks, dogs will definitely like them,” says Populorum.
