There is now compensation for the victims of the long-standing Volkswagen emissions scandal who have joined the class action lawsuit brought by the Consumer Information Association (VKI). The association managed to raise 23 million euros for approximately 10,000 affected people.
The class action lawsuits have been ongoing since 2018 and date back to allegations against VW of installing manipulated engine software in diesel vehicles starting in 2015 (see below).
On average, each person involved is entitled to 2,300 euros, but the actual amount paid out depends on the purchase price of the car.
The diesel or emissions scandal, also known as Dieselgate, is the illegal manipulation of emission values by various car manufacturers such as Audi, VW, Daimler and BMW, as well as by companies such as Bosch since 2015. These practices aimed to undermine legal restrictions on emissions cars while at the same time exerting political influence to secure these activities.
