The federal government has sent a strong signal for academic education and has increased university budgets for the years 2025 to 2027 by approximately 30 percent. In view of this, Tyrol’s specialist coordinator asks: “What are the costs of training and further training for our specialists in the state?”
As the “Krone” reported, the University of Innsbruck will receive 1.1 billion euros and the MedUni Innsbruck 630 million euros. The state has also budgeted around 865 million euros for education in 2025. This has caused dissatisfaction among the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce (WK). She warns of an imbalance in the educational landscape.
“We also urgently need skilled workers”
“What are the costs of training and upskilling our skilled workers in the country?” asks World Cup specialist coordinator David Narr. He fears that most of the state money could also flow to academia. “We need academics. But we also urgently need skilled workers who come from education, that is, from the practical professional side. Their training and further training also require enormous financial support.”
Warning for “scissors”
Narr calls on politicians to ensure that the gap between higher education and the training of skilled workers does not widen further: “Investments in education have a direct impact on the qualifications of our skilled workers and ensure that Tyrol can be used sustainably as a location for companies.”
