“Krone” asked around – flight cancellations in Schwechat: “Everything under control”

Date:

With the removal of the mask requirement on board, the absenteeism of the AUA increases: flight chaos! The “Krone” asked around about corona disturbances in the country.

During the local inspection “Krone” at Vienna airport, the situation slowly eased on day three of the AUA chaos. On Monday, 19 flights had to be cancelled, especially connections within Europe were affected. There were only a few delays. There was little to be seen of angry and stranded passengers in the departure hall.

The Lost & Found counter, however, showed a different picture. “My sister’s suitcase, who was on her honeymoon in Mexico, has been missing for seven days,” complains a Viennese woman. And she’s not alone. Hundreds of suitcases and bags were piled up in the warehouse.

Nevertheless, the airport staff on the ground managed the corona chaos in the sky remarkably brilliantly. “We cannot prevent flights from being cancelled, but otherwise we have everything under control. There are at most waiting times at the security counters,” said Wien-Schwechat board member Julian Jäger.

No “Covid blunders” yet at ÖBB
Everything is still on schedule and – no “Covid derailments yet”, the Austrian railways said on Monday: “Our trains are all running according to plan. There are no disruptions in the actual connections due to Covid. So far, absences due to illness BB General Andreas Matthä assures us, although he speaks of a “challenging situation.” ÖBB employees have therefore been offered PCR tests since Monday.
