How does the industry work? – Driver unpacked – now the money transport company has its say

Date:

A dissatisfied Tyrolean driver spoke out in the “Krone” and mainly complained about low wages. The domestic market leader Loomis recognized this, the head of the Austrian branch contradicts this and emphasizes how he must protect his employees. . .

The Tyrolean driver (name known to the editors) cited the large fluctuations due to low salaries as the main criticism in the industry. You are paid like a normal parcel deliverer, despite the increased risk, carrying firearms and physically demanding work (heavy weight of the coins). The starting salary is 2043 euros gross.

Company recognized itself. . .
The Tyrolean driver clearly struck a nerve with his criticism. Regina Mittermayer-Knopf, the Austrian boss of the international company Loomis, acknowledged that one of her drivers had probably gone outside to seek help.

She first refers to the career of the Scandinavian company with 24,000 employees. From its beginnings in 1852 around the gold rush, when the legendary Pony Express was even operated, the company became a transporter of valuables and money and a logistics service provider – since 1972 also in Austria.

Improvements underway, better communication
Improvements are underway for the employees, our communication needs to be even better,” the boss admits. We are in contact with the Chamber of Commerce and the Vida trade union and there are various considerations.

Bonuses or new industry classification of employees?
This includes a bonus system for the basic salary, but a future classification outside the transport industry is also conceivable. This is in line with central works council member Engelbert Foissner, who adds: “It also concerns the sixth week of vacation and bonuses for committed employees.” An increase of 140 euros was achieved.

For Mittermayer-Knopf, one thing is clear: “The majority of Austrians want to stick to cash, so the complex logistics behind it are still necessary.”

Life comes before money
A lot of emphasis is placed on advanced security. This makes it difficult for criminals: money packages change color after they are taken and become unusable, hidden tracking systems keep an eye on the vehicles and without the ‘real’ driver they would not be able to move at all. Loomis’ motto when the worst happens: ‘Employees’ lives matter most. In case of emergency, they should hand over the money without resistance.”
