The seasonal offer in stores is now taking on bizarre features: with the Easter Bunny next to Santa Claus. And more and more decorative items for the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan can be found in Vienna.
It has now become a custom for Advent calendars and the like to be sold in supermarkets and the like before Halloween (as we know on October 31st).
Although you do wonder why you should have chocolate boxes with windows in your apartment two months before December 1 to collect dust.
But you actually have nothing left, because the “good goods” are often sold out a week before the first Advent.
But even in consumer-friendly times like these, it’s surprising that Easter items are on sale just three days after Christmas Eve. As a reminder, Easter Sunday falls on April 20 in 2025.
Sinterklaas, Easter Bunny and Ramadan
Last Saturday there was a particularly “interesting” photo in a Vienna Woolworth branch. In addition to the sale of Christmas boxes, wrapping paper and Christmas tree decorations, there were also numerous Easter decoration items.
From the Easter bunny to the egg to the flower decorations. Isn’t that too early, we wanted to know about the discounter?
“In fact, we at Woolworth have experienced in recent years that interest in seasonal items such as Christmas and Easter arises increasingly earlier in the year,” a spokesperson explains. That is why the range is being put on sale early. Demand is already high, especially after New Year’s Eve.
Everything ready for Ramadan
A little further, after the Christian festivals, so to speak, the extensive range is available for the Islamic fasting festival of Ramadan. There is growing interest in these items, they say. Ramadan starts on February 28 this year.
