Because millions of laying chickens had to be equipped due to an outbreak of bird flu, egg prizes in the United States have risen dramatically. Retailers such as Walmart limit all the quantities of delivery to secure the tight shares.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, more than 24 million laying chickens have been slaughtered since December due to the unbridled bird flu. Eggs have become a rare, expensive good. In some supermarkets, top quality dozen eggs cost more than ten dollars (slightly less than ten euros), the cheapest are available for six dollars.
Price for eggs sometimes more than doubled
That is more than twice the usual price. Special varieties such as organic and cage -free eggs are even more expensive. The current price increase for eggs is the strongest since the last outbreak of bird flu in 2015. According to the American office for work statistics, it is about two -thirds of the full increase in food costs last month.
Abnackness makes Texaner for chicken farmers
The Americans who are used to spending little for the basic food are restless. More and more want to worry and keep chickens, even for their breakfastsi. “Our sale of poultry has doubled or perhaps even tripled,” says John Berry, a breeder from Houston in the state of Texas. He benefits from the egg shortage in the United States.
American restaurant chain requirements allowance
In some stores the egg boards are empty, in others a maximum of a dozen eggs per customer are sold. The restaurant chain “Waffle House” requires an extra charge of 50 American cents on every egg in a dish.
A decrease in prices is probably not to be expected in the near future. Due to the high demand for the holidays, egg prices are rising around Easter.
In January, the US Department of Agriculture predicted that prices for eggs in 2025 in the United States will probably increase by 20 percent.
