A new trade war is going up: French President Emmanuel Macron is progressing and threatens US President Donald Trump with retribution, he was allowed to make his threats come true.
Macron, in response to announced rates of 25 percent, prospects European countermeasures of 25 percent of aluminum and steel. “If they are confirmed, Europeans will answer,” he told Portugal during a state visit. “So there will be corresponding rates because we have to protect ourselves, we must defend ourselves.”
“If, as announced at the beginning of April, rates are increased to European products of this amount, Europeans should answer because we should not be weak in the light of these measures,” Macron said at a press conference in Porto.
Macron: We have to respond to it
“So what we have to achieve in the coming weeks is convincing that this is generally not a good decision for our geopolitical interests that are shared by the US and Europeans, and that it would be bad for everyone,” Macron said.
“But if this should happen, we must respond to it and we will take responsibility for it,” the French president continued.
After the announcement of American special rates, the EU had already responded to aluminum and steel two and a half weeks ago. Incorrect rates at the expense of the EU would not have continued unanswered and in proportional countermeasures, said EU President Ursula von der Leyen. The EU will defend employees, companies and consumers in the EU.
