Supplier failed – Energy: Austria can do without Kazakhstan

Date:

The Austrians’ main concern at the moment is energy. According to the survey – krone.at reported – 83 percent fear bottlenecks, further price increases are expected. But the government reassured that security of supply is not at risk, there is enough oil and gas.

Kazakhstan is normally one of the largest oil suppliers to Austria. However, the fact that a major terminal there has to be shut down for 30 days under Russian pressure does not pose a threat to our supplies.

OMV can do without deliveries from Kazakhstan
Quite apart from the fact that there are enough oil producers worldwide, the shutdown of the Schwechat refinery “helps” because of repairs after the fire hardly any crude oil can currently be processed. Therefore, OMV can currently easily do without deliveries from Kazakhstan.

Gas is currently being stored again according to plan. The government provides financial support to companies that voluntarily purchase gas from non-Russian sources. The state also pays the costs for the switch from gas to oil company (if technically possible).

Gas: Storage at your own expense
Large companies already store gas for their own account. Voest wants to buy 1.5 TWh, which he can use for several months. 6.6 billion euros is available for a state gas reserve of 20 TWh. The purchase has already started.

Austrians fear energy shortages
A new Gallup poll shows that 83 percent of Austrians fear energy shortages. Fears of a cold winter are accepting environmentally controversial sources, at 39 percent for coal (up from 27 percent in April). The price increases are a concern for 90 percent of the respondents.

Only 17 percent believe that the government is doing enough to secure the energy supply.
