Visa, Apartment, Language – New Job, Strange Land: How the company helps start

Date:

How does it manage to guide and move international IT specialists to Linz to stay? Dynatrace treats intensively with this question. A team of the software manufacturer is responsible for providing integration in Upper Austria. “Also for those of the family members,” says co-founder Sok-Kheng Taing.

29,000 square meters of office space, another 2700 square meter of green roofs, 860 square meters of terraces, 230 parking spaces and 300 bicycle parking places of this is on the calling card of the addition to the Dynatrace campus, which grows in the port area of Linz.

“We want to be a pivot of the region, so that we can win more talents,” says Sok-Kheng Taing. It is one of the three graduates of the Johannes Kepler University who founded the software manufacturer, who has been in the New York stock exchange since 2019.

With the expansion in Linz you have established a clear sign that “we want to continue to grow,” says Taing. The need for employees in research and development is high. For ten years, international IT specialists have been taken over for the location in Linz, where the development center is at home.

“They had to convince to get here”
In the meantime, the company employs employees from 68 countries in Austria, more than a third of the staff come from abroad. “Our internationals are not there because they said I want to come to Austria and want to work there. No, they didn’t know Austria at all. We had to convince them to get here. And they are there because of the role and technology,” says Taing.

Dynatrace finances the restart for international specialists, so that the costs for Visa or the Red-Weiß-Red card coverage. A fully equipped apartment is provided in the first few months, there is support in searching for kindergarten and school places. “It’s a very generous package,” says Taing. German courses are also financed – for employees and their families: “To convince them and get them from us, this is super hard work. Integration is very important for us so that they stay with us.”

“They love the short distances”
Here you not only notice the employee, but also in the area. “Because if the partner does not feel integrated, you decide to return,” Taing said. What do the international specialists appreciate about Linz? “They love the short distances that things can be achieved by public transport.” In terms of language, however, you always come across challenges: “Our social system with doctors is good, but we need English -language doctors or psychologists.”

Taing promotes cooperation between companies at the location, also because it is aware that it is good if other strong companies are away from Dynatrace. This increases the opportunity to inspire international specialists to move to Upper Austria: “If I were moving, it would be important for me that there is not only a company, but tens.”
