The snow situation was modest in winter, the Easter date too late for many ski resorts. Nevertheless, the tourism of Tyrol summarizes well. When you look at the current figures, it also shows that the summer season is becoming increasingly important.
Even if the winter season only officially finished at the end of April, Tyrol already made the balance, Chamber of Commerce and the country. A good record with a view to the framework conditions with small snow and at late Easter for most ski areas. Just over 24 million overnight stays were counted in Tyrol between November and March. This is a slight decrease compared to the previous year of 1.3 percent.
5.5 million winter holidays entered the country, a minus of 0.8 percent. State councilor Marion Gerber (ÖVP) speaks in a stable development in a difficult time: “Tourism remains the decisive engine for the economy and in the winter with a calculated added value of 3.6 billion euros only a minimum report of the previous year.”
Summer: 75 percent with a good booking situation
Tourism can only dream of such added value in the summer. Recently it was 2.4 billion euros. But the summer has been picked up for a few years. For this year, 75 percent of the accommodation companies are currently satisfied with the booking situation. “About half assume that it can keep the result of the previous year, 28 percent calculates with sales plus, only 13 percent with decreases,” has a few digits in the Chamber of Commerce, a few digits. Karin Seiler, director of Tyrol Advertising, assumes that this summer a result can be achieved with 22.7 million overnight stays such as in the previous year. Tyrol Advertising invests 7.5 million euros in the application. That is half the marketing budget.
Fewer Germans, but not afraid of the total failure
Summer and winter: every second Tyrol holiday maker comes from Germany. This winter was a decrease, but Seiler does not believe that this group of guest could remain completely absent due to economic turbulence: “There is no saving on vacation, perhaps on vacation.”
