Long -term demand for aid organizations will soon be implemented in Austria. The new regulation brings more honesty to particularly strenuous professions.
“Nurses do valuable work that requires a lot of everyone. Now the helpers get the recognition they deserve!” SPO member of the Landtag Christian Drobits is extremely satisfied with the decision of the new federal government to record officially nurses from 1 January 2026.
Temptation since 2022
As early as 2022, the then National Council had launched the petition “Care and Support (ST) work”. “More than 17,000 people signed the initiative. 131,000 support came together internally,” reports Drobits. The path for improvements is paved. Thanks to the new regulation, nurses can retire in the future from the age of 60 if they have registered 45 years of insurance and have worked at least half of the last 20 years under heavily stressful circumstances.
Recognized new loads
So far, physically tiring activities have been taken into account, as often. Now psychological (multiple) stress is recognized as constant time pressure. “This is the basis for considerably improving working conditions,” emphasizes Volkshilfe President Verena Dunst. Samariterbund -President Johann Grillenberger fully agrees: “A signal of appreciation! It is becoming increasingly difficult to find qualified nursing staff.”
