According to the Union Group leader Jens Spahn (CDU), the introduction of a digital tax for American internet companies is not yet a decision -making case.
“The fact that we show each other in a friendly way, the instruments you have is good. Amazon and the like do a lot of things here, but pay little. That is not fair. The question of whether we introduce a tax is open,” the CDU politician said the magazine “Stern”.
“The result also depends on the negotiations with the US. An escalation -spiral does not use anyone. In doubt, it is particularly harmful to Europe.” The Minister of Culture and Media Wolfram Weimer spoke about a planned digital tax at the end of May. A corresponding legal template would be prepared, he also told the “star”.
“It’s not just about Google advertisements. It is generally about platform operators with billions of billions. We consider a tax rate of ten percent as moderate and legitimate.” Weimer spoke about a “platform soli”. It can apply to platforms that use media content. At the same time, however, he wanted to look for a conversation with the top level platform operators, “to investigate alternative solutions,” Weimer had added.
