“It would be that simple!” – What a former OMV boss now proposes to the government

Date:

Rising prices, too little gas – are we threatened with a “cold winter” in the true sense of the word? Former OMV boss Gerhard Roiss speaks to the “Krone” about his criticism of the government – and comes up with suggestions.

Gerhard Roiss (70) was head of OMV until 2015. His intention was to strive for independence from Russian gas. To the alternative sources in Norway – they are now piping hot. He explains his assessment of the current situation of the nation to the “Krone”.

“Norway strategy is the right one”
“Norway’s strategy appears to be the right one.” Unfortunately, it was not used before.

Saving is now the number one priority. “If someone saves ten percent, he should get ten percent credit. At 20 it’s 20.” It’s about underconsumption. “It would be that simple. You don’t need pointless advertising campaigns for that either.” Simple message: the best gas is the gas you don’t use.

Roiss joins WIFO boss Gabriel Felbermayr, who tells the “Krone”: “We need a solution that reliably reduces energy bills while providing strong incentives to save energy. energy consumption of the households for free, but for the rest ask market prices.” Roiss: “He says: 80 percent is subsidized, the rest you have to pay. I come from the other side: you get paid for savings.”

Roiss criticizes “lack of transparency”
Climate Minister Leonore Gewessler speaks of capabilities. “But you don’t say how much there is for Austria. That doesn’t happen. What I criticize is that lack of transparency.” You have to buy six billion cubic meters. Where does it come from? How much is bought? In Rotterdam you have three billion cubic meters. “You need a vehicle for that.” The ministry and OMV were unable to fulfill this, says the ex- OMV boss “It finally has to be said.”
