One in four companies has no teleworking days

Most companies had more financial strength in 2020 than in the current year, according to a study by Adecco

The way of working is changing over time and faster after the pandemic, which suddenly forced millions of people to adapt to new work models. However, two years after the outbreak of this crisis, less than half of Spanish companies are adopting telecommuting policies in all their functions (47%), while 27% – one in four – still do not telecommute a day, according to a survey conducted by Adecco Learning & Consulting, showing that employees attach increasing importance to work flexibility, so that aspects like this, mediation and training of secondary have become the most important, above for example salary conditions or social benefits.

The cabinet now wants to promote teleworking again as a way to save in the light of high energy and fuel prices. Therefore, it is preparing an energy saving plan in which telecommuting aims to give a chance to prevent people from taking the car

“The new generations have a different view of the company. Young people are not only assessed in a job interview, but also the company is assessed and are increasingly sensitive to aspects such as the value proposition in the field of professional career, work forms and the reconciliation proposal, the training and development plan, the management style and the fit between the goal of the companies and the personal purpose,” said David López, director of Adecco Learning & Consulting.

Despite the current context of global economic uncertainty, 39% of companies surveyed foresee an increase in their workforce by 2022. In addition, 34% of companies belonging to the energy, ICT, pharmaceutical, chemical and food sectors foresee an increase in number of employees in the short term. In this sense, the skills considered desirable when hiring a person are flexibility, change management, and analysis and problem solving.

In addition, the data provided by the survey also shows a growing trend in organizations’ preference for attracting and retaining multi-skilled talent, such that change management or resilience is one of the most valued skills.

Another aspect analyzed by the research is the financial strength of companies. And this yields a somewhat surprising result: most companies had more financial strength in 2020 than in the current year. For example, in 2020, 42% of the companies surveyed indicated that they have more financial capacity than 34% in 2022. The truth is, however, that there is an explanation; In 2020, companies were in excellent shape, following a very positive 2019 and, as a result, extraordinary results in corporate earnings, healthy balance sheets and the cost of external financing at historic lows.

On the other hand, other results gleaned from the survey are that more than half of organizations (52%) maintain the prices of their products and services, and 57% of companies value outsourcing non-core processes. In addition, 24% say they cannot adjust their fixed costs without jeopardizing their short, medium or long-term operation.
