“Allay fears” – five measures: Lower Austrian inflation declares war

Date:

Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) presented five measures on Thursday with which Lower Austria wants to counter the current wave of inflation. “We want to take away people’s fears and ensure that they can continue to afford a life,” the governor emphasized. The state is allocating a total of 312 million euros for this. In addition to a discount on the electricity price, the measures include an increase in home-work assistance, a higher heating cost subsidy, an increase in housing support and a higher school start aid for families.

That’s them five actionswith which Lower Austria wants to relieve its citizens:

  • Electricity price discount from October: There should be a subsidy for 80 percent of the average consumption. The energy suppliers have to deal with this.
  • Commuting: This will be increased. So far, Lower Austria has spent 1.5 million euros on this, in the future it will be 2.5 million euros.
  • Heating surcharge: This will be doubled – from a total of 13 million to 26 million euros. Until now there is a special subsidy of 150 euros for each citizen, this year it will be a one-off amount of 300 euros.
  • rent allowance: In Lower Austria, 33 million euros has so far been available for this – this year it will be 48 million euros. So an increase of € 15 million.
  • Help with school start: A maximum of 20 million euros will be spent on this. There must be an allowance of 100 euros per child.

Mikl-Leitner: “We know very well that inflation and rising prices directly affect people in all areas of life. Everything we can do as a federal state to ensure that people get through the coming months well, we do with these measures. In our view, these are spot-on and accurate.”
