An Innviertler Waidmann is said to have hung barbed wire at a feeding station to injure the buck’s antlers. His hunting license was revoked. And in the case of Geinberg’s dead fox, the BH Braunau is now investigating.
After a hunter fatally kicked a fox, who had previously been fatally injured by a dog, in a cider cafe in Geinberg, the prosecutor’s office in Ried im Innkreis had to stop the investigation against the man due to a lack of incriminating witness statements.
No witnesses of persecution
“An animal cruelty offense requires someone to willfully shoot one animal at another to make it suffer. However, in the Geinberg case, none of the witnesses confirmed that the dog was deliberately put on the fox,” said Alois Ebner, spokesman For the time being, the hunter has nothing to fear from the criminal law, but the BH Braunau is now examining whether administrative measures can be taken against him.
Trophy manipulation
The case of a hunter from a neighboring municipality of Geinberg (the place is known by the “Krone”) shows that administrative fines can also be painful. He is said to have hung barbed wire at a feeding station on March 30 and was then caught. Apparently, he wanted to cause a young roebuck with regrowing antlers (krickl) to get caught in the wire, wounding and deforming it. Such trophies are coveted collectibles and valuable.
Fortunately, no deer were injured. The Ried/Innkreis district administration has now revoked the hunter’s hunting license for a period of ten months and he also has to pay a fine.
