In the top 100 in the world – high turnover among Austrian construction giants

Date:

Domestic construction groups Strabag and Porr made the top 100 in the world last year. Overall, the industry grew significantly in 2021.

Despite the global crises, the international construction industry has been able to grow strongly in the past year: according to the Deloitte industry report, the sales revenues of the world’s 100 largest companies increased by an impressive 14 percent to US$1.8 trillion (about €1.76 billion). Two local construction giants were right in the middle: Strabag improved his ranking by one place to 19th place, Porr lost four places but still finished in 55th place.

In fact, Strabag in particular hardly needs to avoid a comparison: according to the research, CEO Thomas Birtel achieved an income of 18.1 billion dollars (about 17.7 billion euros), an increase of 7.4 percent. The share price has also developed well recently, Strabag now has a market capitalization of more than four billion dollars.

Porr boss Karl-Heinz Strauss, meanwhile, increased sales by 15.1 percent to the equivalent of $6.1 billion. That is more than double what it was ten years ago.

The largest construction companies come from China
Of course, the largest construction companies in the world now come from China. Among the top 10 are eight conglomerates from the Middle Kingdom. The top six places are taken by names such as China State Construction Engineering Corporation ($293.2 billion in revenue), China Railway Construction and China Communication Construction. The French Vinci Group followed in seventh place.
