SPÖ leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner calls for an “immediate price cap for energy” – and what is happening at Wien Energie (part of Wiener Stadtwerke)? Right! Prices have been raised – and hefty. Prices are also rising in Lower Austria.
Vienna Energy become more expensive. In detail it looks like this:
- The electricity bill increases by 24 percent.
- The bill for gas by 50 percent.
The energy company announced on Wednesday: “For an average Viennese household, this means extra monthly costs of about 10 euros for electricity and about 31 euros for gas. There is also a 12 month price guarantee.” Background: “Energieallianz Austria must adjust the prices for electricity and natural gas as of September 1, 2022.”
The index adjustment in the standard rates will be brought forward as of 1 January 2023 due to the current market situation. Wien Energie continues: “All customers involved will be informed of their personal offer by letter in August. Customers who have a price guarantee plan or a float plan are not affected. The rates for electromobility will also be adjusted. Here, the tank rates rise by an average of 55 percent.”
According to EVN, the rise in prices seems even more dramatic in Lower Austria knock down:
- For a household customer with an electricity consumption – depending on the size of the household – of 3500 kilowatt hours (kWh) or 2000 kWh, the price adjustment means extra monthly costs of around 57 euros or 36 euros (each including VAT).
- For household customers with an annual gas consumption – depending on the size of the household – of 15,000 kWh or 8,000 kWh, the price adjustment means additional monthly costs of approximately 108 euros or 60 euros (each including VAT).
The Austrian electricity price index (ÖSPI) has risen by 247 percent within a year and the Austrian gas price index (ÖGPI) by 323 percent, according to the Energieallianz Austria (EAA).
No increase in Burgenland
Incidentally, the price adjustment in Burgenland will not be brought forward. In addition to Wien Energie and EVN, Burgenland Energie (BE) is also part of the joint sales channel EAA. For BE customers, the old system of the existing delivery conditions will continue to exist.
