The price of fuel chains falls for the sixth week

Date:

Despite this, filling the tank costs between 16 and 23 euros more than a year ago

The fuel price is giving a pause in the pockets of consumers who are fully in business from August. But only half. According to data from the latest oil bulletin from the European Union, this is the sixth consecutive week of falling prices at gas stations. But it is also the most expensive August in history, because despite the decline, refueling is still between 16 and 23 euros more expensive than a year ago.

In concrete terms, the average price of a liter of petrol this week stood at 1,902 euros, 2.6% less than the previous one. The average price of diesel, in turn, is 1,893 euros. In both cases, this is the lowest level since May and, if the end of June is used as a reference, when prices started to fall after a wave of continuous increases, petrol has become 11.2% cheaper, while the reduction was 10% in the previous year. case of diesel.

The previous record of the first week of August, registered in 2013. At the time, a liter of petrol cost 1,472 euros and that of diesel 1,376 euros.

Note that the oil bulletin data does not include the 20 cents per liter bonus that went into effect on April 1, resulting in higher discounts in some cases due to the sales strategies the oil companies have followed to retain customers.

Taking these data into account, the average price of petrol would be 1,702 euros, while that of diesel would be 1,693 euros. While this is an average and these levels will of course be exceeded at some petrol stations, drivers will be thankful not to see the two euros per liter exceeded during the most tense moments of the market.

At current prices, drivers can fill an average 55-litre tank for around €94. That means paying over €16 more than a year ago for petrol cars and about €23.5 more for diesel.

The moderation in oil prices in recent weeks has a lot to do with the recent drop in fuel prices. However, its evolution also depends on taxes or transportation, so each country presents different figures. According to the European oil bulletin, Spain is still below the European average, where petrol is sold for 1,856 euros and diesel for 1,878 euros per litre.

It is more expensive to fill up in neighboring countries such as France, where petrol is paid at 1,844 euros and diesel at 1,878 euros per litre, or Portugal (1,889 and 1,83 euros respectively). In Germany, for example, petrol is more than 1.81 euros and diesel is 1.94 euros.
