About three quarters of Austrians (76 percent) plan to buy Easter presents this year. They want to spend an average of 50 euros for it. Candy (72 percent), eggs (48 percent) and toys (31 percent) are most often reached. Also cash and flowers or plants are in the top five most popular gifts.
“Easter is an important ray of hope for domestic trade – and we may need it urgently after the depressed mood caused by the war in Ukraine and two years of pandemic,” said Rainer Trefelik, chairman of the federal trade department, of the results of the online survey of KMU Forschung Austria.
The majority of respondents (69 percent) want to spend about the same as last year, 18 percent plan to increase their Easter gift budget, 13 percent want to spend less than last year. Buying gifts in physical stores is preferred (89 percent).
The purchasing behavior of city dwellers is also very much in line with the Austrian average. In Vienna, 75 percent of the respondents want to buy gifts. So you budgeted 50 euros for it. And: Three in four Austrians plan to celebrate Easter this year – preferably with a snack or a meal together.
