The third edition of the David Gistau Journalism Award, organized by Vocento and Unidad Editorial, is in full swing. Today opens the deadline for the presentation of candidatures for this award that pays tribute to the remembered journalist from Madrid who died in February 2020. Endowed with 10,000 euros, it highlights the independent and quality journalism that embodied Gistau and that made him a reference. Sponsored by Fundación ACS and Santander, the jury assesses the literary quality and informative relevance of the op-eds, a genre in which Gistau has starred in the ABC or El Mundo newspapers.
Applications can be received in digital format via the website www.premiodavidgistau.com until 22 September 14:00 hrs. The pieces presented for the prize must be written in Spanish between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022 and must be published in print or digital media or broadcast on radio or television.
Prestigious journalistic professionals form the jury that selects and assesses the works. They can be presented by the author or authors themselves, the direction of the media that published them, and institutions, groups or personalities of journalism and culture. Only one work per author may be submitted. If multiple pieces of the same authorship match, the work presented by the author or authors takes precedence over that of third parties. The verdict of the jury, the composition of which will be made public on the date of the award, is final and the prize may be declared null and void.
Alberto Olmos won the first edition in 2020 for his article ‘Things the poor should know’, published in the digital newspaper ‘El Confidencial’. The philosopher and writer Diego S. Garrocho won the second edition, in 2021, with ‘Letter to a Postmodern Youth’, an article published in another digital medium, ‘El Español’.
