The Molina de Segura festival distinguishes the work of the company La Joven based on the autobiography of Édouard Louis
The Young Theater Award 2022 of the Molina de Segura festival already has a winning work: ‘To End Eddy Bellegueule’, by the company La Joven. The montage, based on the autobiography of Édouard Louis, was the most chosen by the jury, made up of young people between the ages of twelve and twenty-four.
‘To end Eddy Bellegueule’ tells of the transformation of Eddy, a quirky boy who must survive in an environment of violence, machismo, homophobia and alcoholism, while trying to hide his true self in search of acceptance.
There are many reasons why it is a well-deserved accolade: a well-told story, good sound and lighting, and excellent performances by the two actors. In the closing colloquium of the work, they came into contact with the public in such a way that a special magic was created. It should be noted that only two actors played all the characters in the novel. As one of the actors said: “It’s a hand-in-hand job where every role is different. The story must be told by both of us, because we help each other.”
A jury composed of 144 young people from six secondary schools in the municipality (IES Cañadas de las Eras, IES Eduardo Linares Lumeras, IES Francisco de Goya, IES Vega del Táder, Liceo Français and Colegio Salzillo) selected the winner from five works on display during the festival: ‘Golfa’, by Primera Toma-Cremilo (Madrid); ‘The Metamorphosis of Gregor’, by El Aedo Teatro (Madrid); ‘In Loop’, by Rayuela-La Nave (Castilla y Leon); ‘The Meerkat’s Perspective’, by Deconné (Murcia); and ‘To end Eddy Bellegueule’, by La Joven (Madrid).
