Spectacular accident late Saturday on the Inntalautobahn in the Tiroler Unterland: a 43-year-old Italian lost control of the wheel in the pouring rain near Jenbach, before crashing into the concrete barrier and coming to a stop 120 meters further on his side.
The Italian, who lives in Germany, was driving on the A12 towards Innsbruck shortly after 10 p.m. when, according to witnesses, he suddenly drove from the first lane to the fast lane and then crashed into the concrete guardrail. The force of the impact threw the car about 120 meters further onto the highway before coming to a stop on the passenger side.
The driver got out lightly
The car was heavily damaged. Rescuers helped the man out of the wreckage. Lucky luck: the 43-year-old should have been unharmed. As a precaution, however, he was taken by ambulance to the Schwaz district hospital.
The Jenbach volunteer fire brigade secured the accident site and then carried out the clean-up work. There were traffic disruptions during the rescue and firefighting operation.
