The House of Culture of Caravaca de la Cruz organizes on Thursday a day of dissemination on the occasion of the International Day of Geodiversity
The Region of Murcia will celebrate the International Day of Geodiversity in Caravaca de la Cruz next Thursday the 6th with a day dedicated to the study and dissemination of the black layer of the Barranco del Gredero, a natural enclave declared a Natural Monument for its geological importance international last year.
The conference, jointly organized by the City Council of Caravaca, the University of Murcia and the Autonomous Community, will bring together experts of national and international importance in the House of Culture and will be broadcast live on YouTube so that it can be followed by interested parties on the area of the whole world.
During this event, the logo will also be presented, which will represent the black layer of Caravaca de la Cruz in the network of protected areas of the Region of Murcia, chosen through a competition organized by the Consistory itself to appreciate the cultural heritage.
The Regional Government, at the request of the Consistory of Caravaca, declared the Black Layer of the Barranco del Gredero a Natural Monument in November 2021, recognizing the international geological importance of this enclave in which the meteorite that struck sixty-six million years ago has been traces left on Earth, causing several species to become massively extinct.
In this way, it became one of the four natural monuments that the region currently has, along with the Gredas de Bolnuevo, Mount Arabí and Sima de la Higuera.
After this declaration, this Caravaca space became part of the network of protected natural areas of the Region of Murcia, which makes it possible to promote initiatives aimed at preserving and disseminating it as a source of knowledge.
