Date:

The young journalist jumps from Basque television to TVE to present ‘El comodín de La 1’, a new competition for the afternoons

The journalist Aitor Albizua (Arrigorriaga, Vizcaya, 30 years old) arrives from the Basque Country to present ‘El comodín de La 1’, the new afternoon competition on the first public channel (Monday to Friday, 17:55) tests the knowledge of the participants to win a prize of up to 30,000 euros. The mechanics are simple: each of the two participants of each program has 7 prize opportunities and 7 wildcards. They must answer 10 questions without exception. For each correct answer, they move up one position on the prize ladder. If they fail, you lose 3 wilds at once. Aitor Albizua started his professional career on Cadena Ser, in ‘From good to first’, then made the jump to ETB to co-present the daily newspaper ‘We threw ourselves on the street’ and the competition ‘Lingo’.

-How did your signing for TVE go?

– One afternoon at the end of August I woke up from a nap on the beach, in Donosti’s Zurriola, and I found a message on my mobile that they would offer me a new television project. I went to do the casting in Madrid, with no expectations, and within a few days they called me to see me again. At three o’clock we started talking about the recordings. It was a surprise.

-At only 30 years old, he already has an ascending professional career. You don’t normally see this on television so young.

– I didn’t even think a little bit that it would end with a match on TVE. I repeat for my college classmates and ser. I was blown away, it didn’t get into my pools. I come from a generation of young people who may not be used to having great opportunities and when they give them to you, you are shocked. My heart shot up. I cannot be more than grateful because they have chosen a presenter who is not known to the general public.

-Did you have to leave the Basque Country for this new project?

-Not at this time. Since it is a very intense shooting month, I focus on work and work. While there are very good vibes in the production company and the chain, if I have to move to Madrid it will be because the match is working. I’ve lived in Madrid for 11 years, but left for ETB for ‘Lingo’ a year ago.

-Enter the world of TV competitions. Do you follow these kinds of programs?

-Now, with the matches, I see them all out there, because I didn’t expect to enter such a world. I’m from the recordings and I’m ‘Pasapalabra’, ‘El Cazador’ and ‘Boom!’ go see. All those that exist now, and old ones too, I have begun to review them. I think when I joined the Joker team, I was the person who knew the least about television. It’s cool to find yourself in a place where you just need to learn and feel very supported.

-What attracted your attention to ‘El comodín de La 1’?

-For me it was a challenge, because it allows me to develop my personality as a presenter. I’m not just going to ask questions. As for the questions, since there are wildcards, they are not for scholars of knowledge, but for all audiences. The participants of ‘The joker’ are very different and diverse.

– Do you participate in your own competition?

-I’d love to join in to have fun, but I’m not quite sure if I could (laughs). One of the things that amazes me, in all that recording period that we’ve done, is everything I’m learning. I tell the participants not to worry if they fail, because I don’t know the answer and I can’t help them. In other countries

-Have you seen the original format from other countries?

– When they called me for the test and they explained the format to me, I started looking for the program in the Portuguese and French versions. It took me a while to get used to the idea of what the move was about. I arrived when that process was finished, but those competition elements, with the naturalness that we have in Spain, had to be adapted. When I compare it to the rest of the versions, I think we’re very proud of how it turned out. It leaves the ‘Joker’ format at a very good level.

How will you conduct the hearings?

– I started noticing that pressure at ETB. I have a philosophy in this world where the public decides and that is to try not to be so conditioned by the data of ‘sharing’. We’re going to have to do the program anyway and you can’t put yourself in front of a format that thinks it’s going to have a bad audience because it’s airing. The team is focused on giving everything the best.

-He started today and now takes care of the entertainment. Are you missing the raw information?

-At first I noticed the bug to be present and be the narrator of the present moments. In recent years, I started discovering entertainment on Cadena Ser, which was at dawn. If I’ve discovered anything, it’s that entertainment is important and just as necessary as information. Of course, I’m still open to what’s to come from now on.
