Effort. COAMU unveils in October the pages published by LA VERDAD in the summer series ‘Rincón exquisite’
Since yesterday, and for a month, the Official College of Architects of the Region of Murcia has been displaying the pages LA VERDAD published last summer in the Architecture section of the Summer Annex. ‘Exquisite corner’ is a reflection of the preoccupations of a profession and also of a section of the bourgeoisie, which is undoubtedly the most alert to the possibilities of architecture. Since 2019, in July and August, this newspaper offers a daily space dedicated to contemporary housing, an example of what can help the press disseminate a group that, in addition to beauty, speaks of a time and a place, in this case, the 45 municipalities of the Region.
Perhaps, in an optimistic view, ‘Rincón Exquisito’ has emphasized the needs of new housing. Spaces that answer a concern, that of improving the quality of life of its promoters, something that is not always possible, although in these more than forty examples we see that there is not one solution. The possibilities are, if not infinite, in any case immense.
María José Peñalver, Dean of the Official College, thanked LA VERDAD for its commitment to disseminating quality actions and its commitment “to society and to architecture”. Peñalver cited the work carried out by the technical committee responsible for the selection of the projects, composed of Juan Pedro Sanz Alarcón and Lola Jiménez, on behalf of COAMU, and by Manuel Madrid, Head of Culture and Society for this newspaper. This ‘Exquisite Corner’ series continues the previous ones published in 2021 (‘The Postpandemic House’), 2020 (‘The Reform of Your Life’) and 2019 (‘The House of Your Life’).
A few days ago, World Habitat Day was commemorated, with the theme of sustainable urban development. Uniting architecture and sustainability, according to the dean, sends a clear message to the public: «We have instruments to influence this serious problem and this fundamental right. We face an environmental challenge, having lived through a pandemic and an energy crisis as we are today.”
The Week of Architecture, which will be extended by COAMU to the whole month of October, has the motto ‘Design for health’, ‘and architecture heals’. “Architects have a responsibility as an institution to become increasingly competent, to be better trained and to provide tools for this. But we also have a duty to make governments aware of the policies they are developing for good urban planning, both in terms of planning and management, and citizens of the importance of their homes. In that sense, THE TRUTH has made it very easy for us to reach them.”
Madrid thanked the architects for their collaboration, pointing out that these examples “say a lot about what these professionals and their related professions can continue to contribute to the Murcia region. We may not be an example of anything, but I want to believe that we are able to to leave a mark of those who live forever ».
The event was attended by numerous architects and the Director of Territory and Architecture of the Region, Jaime Pérez Zulueta.
