Paolo Vasile, with one foot from Mediaset

Date:

The CEO of the communications group for a quarter of a century will soon stop performing his duties. The decision taken from Italy, where the group is located

Paolo Vasile, the man who brought Telecinco to the top of the crowd, stands with one foot outside Mediaset. Inventing a model to make television based on cheap entertainment, reality television and the creation of his own celebrity farm, the CEO of the communications group has become a vulnerable figure. His fall is a sine qua non for a cycle renewal. According to ‘El Mundo’, the most important manager of the Spanish audiovisual sector in the last quarter of a century will soon cease to carry out his duties. The decision was taken from Italy, where the group is based.

Vasile is preparing his withdrawal after his ratings fall month after month. Vasile’s formula made the chain depend on the power of ‘Sálvame’, a space that marked Telecinco’s DNA, but is currently going through its worst moment. It is not in vain that Jorge Javier Vázquez’s program bleeds to death and receives enormous support. Compared to 2012, the space is already accumulating a decrease of more than 20%.

Since the Telecinco crisis is not going back and efforts to plug the pothole have been unsuccessful, Italy has chosen to replace the CEO, the architect of two decades of leadership of the Italian group. Starting next week, the chips will start moving to start a new phase.

Paolo Vasile will resign from his position as CEO of Mediaset España after 23 years. The Roman director, who studied anthropology, took up the position in 1999. It is not yet known who will succeed Vasile. The only thing that is certain is that the president of Mediaset in Spain, Borja Prado, has the confidence of the executives of the Italian parent company. From the 26th, the estimated date for holding an extraordinary shareholders’ meeting, the new leadership will be outlined.
