A Russian military plane crashed Monday over a residential area in the small town of Yeysk, in southwestern Russia. The crash occurred near the border with Ukraine, in the Krasnodar region, Russian news agencies reported, citing the Ministry of Defense in Moscow.
The two-seater Sukhoi-34 fighter-bomber crashed into the yard of a residential complex and the plane’s fuel caught fire, the ministry said. Images published on social media show a burning building. According to Reuters news agency, four floors of the skyscraper are on fire.
According to the emergency services, the fire has spread over an area of about 2,000 square meters. At least one person was killed in the plane crash and three others – including a child – were taken to hospital in serious condition.
The two-man crew of the plane were able to save themselves from the crashing machine using the ejection seats (a parachute can be seen in one of the photos), it is said.
