The Santa María de la Arrixaca Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Murcia resumes its activities this Friday, with the solemn act of opening the course, in which one of the most relevant artists of his generation, Rafael Canogar (Toledo, 1935), a painter and academic of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. He will present at 7.30 pm the newspaper entitled ‘The 50s. The origins of our avant-garde’ in the auditorium of the annex of the Municipal Council of Murcia. Canogar, who took part in the 2020 exhibition ‘El Paso. Art as a struggle’, he said at the age of 84: ‘I feel very good, I can work with the same vitality as always’. So before the world got caught up in the unpredictable consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, he said that “many of the values ​​I have always believed in are being eroded: truth, honesty, solidarity…”. And he set himself the goal of “achieving works that reflected my quest for the spiritual, my desire for transcendence.”

On 3 November Amparo Montoro Bermejo, Professor of Music History at the Massotti Little Superior Conservatory in Murcia, will give the conference ‘Between cinema, flamenco and the avant-garde: the national and festival of the Murcian composer Mario Medina Seguí in ‘Thursdays at the Academy’. ‘. Two dances for cello and piano by Mario Medina are performed: ‘Danza Triste’ and ‘Danza Alegre’, with Miguel Baró Bo (piano) and Miguel Baró Tomé (violin cello). The event will take place at the Culture Hall of the Cajamurcia Foundation, at 7:30 PM.

In the same cycle of ‘Thursdays at the Academy’, Gloria G. Durán, professor of fine arts at the University of Salamanca, research artist and psychotherapist, on November 10 (Aula de Cultura de la Fundación Cajamurcia), who will give the conference’ Sycaliptic women of the future : a constellation of heroines of modernity’. Juan Gómez Acosta, architect and professor at UCAM’s Superior School of Architecture, will speak on ‘Interventions in the Church of San Diego de Lorca after the 2011 earthquake’ on November 17 (Casa Díaz Cassou). On November 24, painter and sculptor Carlos Pardo will intervene as a guest at Casa Díaz Cassou. And on December 1, Cristóbal Belda will present the book ‘Sixteenth-century painting in Murcia’, by Manuel Muñoz Clares and Pablo López Marcos, and on December 15, the Auroros de Santa Cruz will perform, presented by Joaquín Gris, the Brotherhood’s older brother of Our Lady of the Rosary of Santa Cruz (Murcia).
