The writer Nativel Preciado has pronounced the proclamation of the Cartagena Book Fair, a cultural event restored after 13 years

The Cartagena Book Fair has already started. In the morning of this Thursday, the Mayor Noelia Arroyo, accompanied by the Councilors of Culture David Martínez and Carlos Piñana and the coordinator of the event, María del Carmen Rodal Rodríguez, head of the Cartagena Library Network, officially inaugurated this festive literature festival that will be recovered after 13 years of absence. This was no longer done in 2009 due to the crisis. The Plaza de España is the chosen place for the 47 stands that will show the novelties of the publishers between now and Sunday.

«This universe of books returns, from the recognition of the word, it meets from today in the heart of Cartagena, the country that Miguel de Cervantes visited twice; the homeland of Carmen Conde or Arturo Pérez Reverte, or the adoptive country of the great María Dueñas,” the mayor said during the ceremony. Arroyo emphasized that the purpose of this fair is “to continue to support this industry that is so important to the cultural fabric, to continue to promote to the youngest people a hobby that will enrich them in every way and, of course, to continue to give energy to Cartagena”.

In the afternoon, journalist and writer Nativel Preciado gave the opening speech of the fair and presented at the New Circus Theater her novel ‘The Elephant Sanctuary’ (Planeta), winner of the Azorín Novel Award 2021. The book It tells how a group of rich friends makes a trip to Africa, a mixture of business and pleasure, which turns into hell. A day when ‘The Two Kings’ was also the main character, the new book by Benjamín Prado, which the Madrilenian narrator announced in the presentation room set up at the fair. ‘The Two Kings’ is the sixth book starring the detective, teacher and writer Juan Urbano.

Vooruit is a weekend full of delights for the readers that continues today with the presence of actor and writer Pablo Rivero (‘Cuéntame’), who will present ‘La crico’ at the Nuevo Teatro Circo; the Hellenist Pedro Olalla and his book ‘Words from the Aegean’, in the Roman Theater Museum; and Estefanía Chereguini, who will present the ‘Rastro del Ocre’ at the same fair, where dozens of writers will sign.
