The Cartagena contest, which will hold its final at the Fundación Mediterráneo, opens its registration period on November 14
The Fundación Mediterráneo headquarters in Cartagena on Thursday hosted the presentation of the XXV edition of the “Between strings and metal” competition, organized by the Department of Youth of the City of Cartagena and the Professional Conservatory of Music, in collaboration with Fundación Mediterráneo . The registration period for this new call aimed at young musicians from all over the Murcia region will remain open from November 14 to December 14.
The novelties of the competition were presented by the Councilor for Culture and Youth, David Martínez Noguera; the deputy director of the Cartagena Conservatory, Celia Amaro; the director of the Cartagena Symphony Orchestra, Leonardo Martínez, and the vice president of the Mediterranean Foundation, Rosa Peñalver. The mayor explained that 25 years of the competition has allowed it to “become a reference among young musicians throughout the region, who have seen in this initiative an optimal projection platform for their artistic and professional ambitions.”
The 2023 edition “will be dedicated to the composer Sergéi Rachmaninoff, as it coincides with the 150th anniversary of his birth,” the councilor said.
The poster was created by the designer Ángel Ronda.
The Vice President of the Fundación Mediterráneo, Rosa Peñalver, emphasized the entity’s commitment to young artists: “We don’t let talent go to waste because of a lack of support.”
The competition will have more resources as, as Martínez Noguera pointed out, “we have increased the competition budget by about 17% and the economic amount allocated to prizes by 20%, reaching the amount of 25,000 euros for the prizes » .
Registrations must be done electronically. The full rules are available on the ‘Between strings and metal’ website. The award ceremony will take place as usual on May 5, 2023 in the El Batel Auditorium.
