“It’s important to have people around you who don’t dance on the water”

Date:

The young woman from Huelva participates in the program ‘Incredible Duos’, where she forms a couple with singer Francisco

At just 18 years old, she received the public blessing of Alejandro Sanz, who saw in her one of the great hopes for the future of music. The composer and singer Marta Soto (Punta Umbría, Huelva, 1996) participates in the program ‘Incredible Duos’, produced by TVE together with Ganga, where she covers songs together with Francisco from Alicante. In tonight’s episode, broadcast by La 1 from 10:40 PM, the contestants compete against each other and the public decides who ends their stay in the competition.

-How was the connection with your new partner after the departure of Ainhoa Arteta?

-It was a challenge to start over with Francisco. He didn’t come up with many ideas either, but he made it really easy for me from minute one. He helped me and gave me a lot of love. I’m glad I got to meet him. I have a different experience than my peers. They are tests that life gives you and I am grateful to be able to live them alongside artists as great as Ainhoa Arteta and Francisco.

-What will you learn in this program with this group of experienced artists?

-It’s not just the fact that I can share the stage with so many artists, but also living together. Arrive in the morning and enter the makeup room while Ana Belén says good morning and worries about us. He is an elegant and humble person, and those are the values that make an artist great. I learn a lot from the most human part of my colleagues. Also from the ‘juniors’, because we form a pineapple. “Incredible duos” is a program that gives high priority to live music, reviving songs from the past, and such a space on television was needed.

-How do you remember your first day in the race?

-The first day I arrived trembling, but everyone made it easy for me. There is a lot of unity between the team and you never feel out of place or unattended. It’s a really big team, I think I’ve come across about sixty different faces, and they treat you like you’re another sister. I was scared, but I have to admit that I came out like a fish in water because I learned a lot on stage.

– Has music come to you since you were little?

-In my family there has always been a lot of music inhaled. I am from Huelva and have lived there since I was a little girl. For example, my father has always composed chirigota’s pasodoble for carnival. That awakened the artistic and more singer-songwriter vein in me. I am grateful that my family brought a guitar to every birthday, because without that memory and experience I would not be the person I am.

-She was publicly sponsored by Alejandro Sanz.

I remember it with great innocence and affection. Alejandro Sanz is responsible for allowing me to devote myself professionally to music today. It will always be. He opened a really big door for me and put me in a place where a lot of people could see me who wouldn’t have come otherwise. It was a shot of energy for music to become my plan ‘A’. I devoted all my passion to the songs, to the guitar and to storytelling.

-Is it hard to find a place in music?

-Yes. It’s an unstable world. It’s an industry that many of us keep trying. There is no secret formula to succeed. That does not exist. There are only good songs. They are the ones who rule, the ones who are elected by the public and you have to put in the effort.

-What’s the key to keeping your feet on the ground?

– Mainly family and friends. They are very normal and humble people. As soon as I made an inappropriate comment, my closest people told me not to climb the vine. It’s important to have people around you who won’t break the bank, not just in this job, but in life in general. We need people who are honest with you and if you’re wrong, they’ll tell you. It’s becoming increasingly clear to me that the mission in life is to be a better person every day, even if it sounds like “mister miraculous.”

– Didn’t you present a song to represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest?

-My representative asked me if I had a song to present at ‘Benidorm Fest’, but I felt I couldn’t handle a song for Eurovision. If at any point I feel it’s right, I’ll be the first to raise my hand and exclaim, ‘I think I’ve got a good option for the festival’. Right now I think it’s something that’s a little big for me.
