The Ministry of Culture on Monday announced the recruitment of 18 new employees, especially security, to reopen the halls of several museums, in particular those of Greece and Egypt of the National Archaeological Museum in Madrid, which had to close due to the lack of staff , a fact that had sparked controversy among workers and visitors.

Miquel Iceta’s department considers that with the engagement of 17 guards and a ticket seller “the reduction in staff resulting from the recent competition for the transfer of labor staff of the General State Administration, which mainly affected the Sorolla Museum, the Cerralbo Museum, struck, has been resolved. and the National Archaeological Museum».

As explained by Culture, the contracts, approved by the Ministry of Finance and Public Functions, will allow for the temporary hiring of room security staff in the 16 state-owned and operated museums until the vacancy selection procedures are called and resolved. 2020, which provides 80 places, of which 76 are for government posts.

The request for the transfer of guards to other facilities due to their precarious working conditions created a problem these state museums have been dragging on since reopening after the pandemic. Some of those affected include the Museum of Romanticism in Madrid, or the Greek or Sephardi museums in Toledo.
