The journalist and writer reveal some of the stories behind 36 famous portraits
The Murcian journalist Carlos del Amor presents this Friday in Murcia his latest, ‘Retratarte. When every look is a story’. The event will take place at the Aula de Cultura de LA VERDAD in the Congress Hall of the Fundación Cajamurcia, at 8 p.m., and admission is free until capacity is reached. Del Amor is joined by LA VERDAD journalist Manuel Madrid.
In this book, the Spanish television communicator and author of successful books such as ‘Emocionarte’ and ‘La vida a veces’ presents 36 portraits from the 15th century to the 21st century, by 33 authors, such as Caravaggio, Tamara de Lempicka, Lucian Freud or Modigliani, and recreates the lives of the paintings’ protagonists as well as the artists themselves, as they analyze how they are reflected in their way of painting, using dialogues, interior monologues and other sources.
In an interview in LA VERDAD, Del Amor lamented that his previous bestseller, Emocionarte. The double life of paintings could not be presented in Murcia and that is why “I want to return, especially to see the faces of so many people I appreciate.” Moreover, he also revealed that “it will be my first Christmas presentation”.
“When I go to a museum, I see a frozen photo, a frame from a movie that arrived two, three, or five hundred years later. I try to watch the previous frame and the next frame to try and build the story,” he told this newspaper in an interview on “Retratarte,” published by Espasa. “Each episode of our lives defines what we are and what we will be, as I say in the book.”
