Toñi Moreno returns to TVE to lead ‘Plan de tarde’, a classic Sunday magazine

Eight years after his departure, Toñi Moreno returns to TVE. The Andalusian presenter leaves Mediaset in this way and returns to public television with a classic format that aims to recover the adrenaline of immediately on Sunday afternoon.

On January 15, La 1 will premiere ‘Plan de tarde’ (7 p.m.), a new magazine for the weekend in which there will be no shortage of social chronicle meetings, interviews with famous personalities and also music, with a piano on the set that will enliven the dull day before returning to routine. All this, according to those responsible, accompanied by the imposing power of RTVE news, in case current events are interrupted with an important last minute.

“We thought this was the ideal time to reshape Sunday afternoons, that it wasn’t all canned and to restore immediacy. The return of Toñi Moreno to Televisión Española made us very excited,” said the Director of Originals for RTVE, Ana María Bordas, while presenting the new program for La 1. The new space should become “a current affairs magazine” with a treatment of gossip news in an “elegant and careful” way.

The public body’s new bet opens for live television a slot that has been occupied in recent years by the broadcast of television films, with an audience below the average of the public channel. For example, ‘Plan de tarde’ will compete with other similar spaces in the competition such as ‘Fiesta’ (Telecinco) and ‘La Roca’ (La Sexta).

The program is led by Toñi Moreno, who returns to TVE eight years later after the controversial ‘Entre todos’ and the cancellation of ‘T con T’. «I saw the Pirulí (the RTVE headquarters in Madrid) and I started to shake. All the changes make us all nervous, ”confess the journalist, who thus concludes a long stage at Mediaset, where she has worked in numerous spaces over the years. The last one, “Be Loved” on Telecinco.

The presenter says she communicated her departure to her previous bosses in the closed communication group and they understood: “Usually I leave places and leave the door open. Mediaset is my family. I went well and thankfully,” he says.

Regarding his new project on public television, Moreno is taking up the challenge with “illusion, passion and hope” that the format will stay on the grid for a long time. “It will be step by step. The comic is complicated, but we’re going to fight it. The viewer will look for us to make them forget their problems and laugh,” says the experienced presenter.

Moreno assures that what he prefers to do on the small screen, at almost 50 years old, is direct. In short, tell what is happening outside the set at that moment. “Public television is in my DNA. I’ve been to Canal Sur all my life. We owe that to the people who pay us. We have to treat things with respect and empathy,” he defends.

In terms of content, the public channel is committed to two sections with which it wants to distinguish itself from the competition: ‘At the house of…’, where celebrities open the doors of their homes to explore their most intimate corners; and also ‘The couples’, to see the big love stories and breakups of the ‘couché paper’ characters.

Toñi Moreno returns to TVE with more personal and professional experience. His first public corporation podium was surrounded by controversy with “Entre todos,” in which viewers called from home to help and donate money to those in vulnerable situations.

The program was even criticized by former foreign minister José Manuel García Margallo (PP), who assured that the space could damage Spain’s image beyond our borders. “I lived it badly because I was of a different age,” Moreno recalled. “But I don’t have a bad memory on TVE.”

Later, after the cancellation of ‘Entre todos’, the communicator took over the presentation from ‘T con T’, removed from the schedule due to low screen share. “I wanted to do a lot of things, but we didn’t give the data. It was the first time I put myself in charge of a magazine. I’m returning to TVE after learning from some mistakes I made that I won’t do now,” he says.
